Friday Drive #034 - Closed Door Conversation

Feb 02, 2024

Read Time: 90 Seconds

Hey,

Do you hate having tough conversations? If so, it's okay; most people do. But to reach your fullest potential and help others do the same, you must be willing to go there and enter the "danger zone."

Here are a couple of helpful tools.

First, encourage open dialogue by being receptive to tough conversations. Create an environment where addressing issues is valued.

Here is a conversation template that I use when I need to address a sensitive subject.

First, craft your opening statement; it sets the tone for the conversation, and in less than 60 seconds, you get it all on the table in a productive manner.

Opening Statement

  • Clearly state the issue
  • Provide examples of what is going on
  • Share your feelings; how does this issue make you feel?
  • Explain the issue's significance
  • Take responsibility for your piece, of what's happening or what went wrong
  • Propose a solution
  • Invite their response

Give this trust-building template a shot the next time you have to have a challenging conversation.

Stay Focused,
Casey
