Friday Focus #050 - How I Started Thinking Differently About Money ๐ธโAnd Where It Led Me To
Jun 13, 2025
Hey,
A few years ago, a trusted friend asked me something that didn’t land at first: “What is money?”
I shrugged it off. Money is money, right? We earn it, save it, invest it, spend it.
But that question stuck with me. And eventually, I started digging.
Money only holds value because we all agree it does. But here’s the kicker: the government can print more dollars at any time—and every time they do, your dollars lose purchasing power.
Let me give you a few examples:
— Bought a $500K home five years ago that’s now “worth” $700K?
— Earned $60K five years ago, now making $100K?
Did you build wealth—or just keep pace?
That curiosity led me to attend my first Bitcoin conference. Not as a fanboy or hype-chaser, but as a student. I wanted to understand: Could this really be different?
Here’s what stood out:
-
The U.S. dollar is weakening—and that’s systemic.
-
Gold has been reliable, but not perfect.
-
Bitcoin is decentralized, capped at 21M, and can’t be manipulated by governments.
-
Big players (the same ones who mocked it) are now buying in.
Am I saying buy Bitcoin? No.
Am I saying be curious? 100%.
As a Christian, my hope is in Jesus—not an asset class. But I also believe in wise stewardship. That includes learning how the world is changing and preparing for the long game.
This isn’t a pitch. It’s a nudge.
๐ Be curious. Do your homework. Don't wait for the headlines to catch up.
Stay Focused
